Dwarves
Appearance
-
Hair, skin, and eyes are all absolutely similar to normies. There are no special colours. They favour the brighter hues of blonde and ginger hair, but others aren't unheard of at all.
-
Their bodies are obviously a lot stockier and shorter than humans as they come up to no taller than 4'5, whilst averaging around 4'0.
-
Both males and females are able to grow facial hair from the ripe young age of 6. In modern times, female dwarves have been influenced by human culture and are no longer expected to remain hairy. However, the traditionalists still wear theirs proudly.
-
Hair length and braiding is a sign of status among their kind. Longer bears show longevity and strength, whilst how many braids they possess might symbolize wealth and skill.
-
A dwarf without a beard will find it a lot harder to find work in their internal communities.
-
Origins
-
Not to be mistaken for humans with dwarfism, the dwarves are a race of their own. As humans came to be upon the earth, a separate body of organisms came to be beneath it.
-
Gigantic cave systems were carved deep under ground to house the rapidly-growing population of little hairy individuals. Finding ores which could be melted down with lava and fire made their technological advancements so much quicker than the humans.
-
Mountain keeps were built out of stone and iron, then decorated with gold. They were a race that appreciated the beauty of craft above all else. The shinier the finish, the more enchanted a dwarf became. They needed to possess all that they found precious.
-
The dwarves surfaced when humans finally started mining the earth and rocks for copper nearly 10,000 years ago. However, they were mistaken for demons due to their strange appearances and otherworldly language. The first reaction of the humans was to assume they were foes.
-
Needless fights broke out until the humans forfeited. They weren't geared as well as dwarves, so they found themselves quickly felled by the beautiful weaponry. The humans learned to stay out of the dwarves' business. From time to time, however, the two worlds would meet. There was room for trade once the humans had more to give.
-
Some dwarves taught the humans how to craft and mine whilst the humans taught the dwarves about agriculture. It was a fair trade, but once all was taught, the dwarves receded back into the earth, not to surface again until recent times.

History
-
Over the multiple millennia, dwarves tunneled away, managing to create long corridors which spanned under the sea-floor. Dwarves were branching out to other counties and forming their own massive subterranean keeps.
-
Dwarves didn't maintain a close relationship to the humans. This was primarily because of spelunkers robbing them of their riches, and technology drilling such immense holes in the earth that some of the ancient dwarven tunnels ended up collapsing.

Modern Day
-
The dwarves are a race set in their old ways. They haven't changed much in their history, if at all, other than their diet shifting from mushrooms and meat to a full-pallet thanks to the early trades with the humans.
-
In Wyrdafel, there is a small population of Swedish Dwarves that were discovered by a man named Oscar Lindholm. Through his family's love of dwarven lore and architecture, they formed a friendship. The dwarves were brought over to Wyrdafel to build a keep known as 'the Greyhold'. This will serve as a meeting place for an organization set to one day replace the Supernatural Supreme Court (the governing force of the supernaturals.)
-
Tunneling systems are now being set in place underneath Wyrdafel itself. What they will be used for is to be discovered, for it is not yet known.

Noteworthy People
-
King Midor Goldengauntlet: One of the only dwarven wizards ever confirmed. He was able to turn that which he held in his hand to gold. Some dwarves have this ability to this day, but very rarely.
-
Oscar Lindholm: A Swedish wizard which has been making great strides to improve the structure of the Supernatural Supreme Court. He now operates the Greyward in Wyrdafel, which is an organization that will hopefully one day replace the SSC. He's a close friend of the dwarves and offers them many great opportunities.

Advanced Lore
-
Dwarves live until the ripe age of 300. Their age of adulthood isn't determined by a number, but rather, their crafting achievements.
-
A 30 year old Dwarf with poor craftsman skills might still be referred to as a child.
-
Alternatively, a 10 year old Dwarf will be shown respect if they can build at a young age.
-
Obviously, if the Dwarf's mental maturity isn't great (1-17) they won't be seen as an adult, but they will definitely be shown respect if they can craft well.

-
Dwarves that can turn things to gold are revered for having the blood of Kings.
-
Most dwarves don't feel comfortable sleeping above the earth. They prefer to live in basements, or at least rooms without windows.
-
Thanks to the way they've evolved, dwarves are able to see vaguely in the dark.
