Demons
Appearance
-
Demons, in their raw forms, look nightmarish and unnerving. Though some can pass off as prettier than others, they all seem to have something particularly wicked and twisted about them.
-
A lot of demons adopt traits from frightening or occult motifs. For example: spiders, goats, snakes, lizards, and centipedes. Because of this, their demon forms could have anything from hooves, to horns, to tails, to even extra limbs and eyes.
-
Demons are 'blessed' with a human shapeshift form which allows them to walk around on earth and sneak around under the public eye. To remain unnoticed, they tend to pick rather simple human appearances with no real uniqueness. However, there are some demons which find that plain boring.
-
If a demon wanted to, their human form could have strangely coloured hair and eyes, but they might blow their own cover. It's entirely up to them if they want to take the risk.
Origins
-
Demons come from the planet 'Drothoth' or 'Hell' as we know it more prominently on earth. Drothoth is a fiery, red, nightmarish landscape where the souls of evil living organisms go once they pass on. This means that the denizens of Drothoth are entirely composed of past bad doers. It is believed that every representation of hell from every culture and inhabitable planet in the universe exists on this planet.
-
When the bad soul arrives at Drothoth, they are formed into a creature which suits their most frequent sin: Wrath, Pride, Sloth, Gluttony, Lust, Envy, and Greed. If the demon makes a good case to the greater entities of Drothoth, they can be given a human form and sent back to earth or whichever planet they are from.
-
Drothoth shares a solar system with Azatheer, its polar opposite. Azatheer is the home of the Divines. It essentially exists as every culture and planet's representation of Heaven in unison. They are at war - and always have been - with Drothoth's demons.
-
In an attempt to rally as many demons as possible to finally march on Azatheer and destroy it for good, demons descend to earth in order to convince as many people as possible to fall to sin. Just about anyone can be wholeheartedly corrupted... other than werewolves due to their lineage with the Fae. Whilst they can be cursed, they will never be able to go to Drothoth when they die.

History
-
Demons have been tempting humans to sin since the very beginning. They are written about endlessly within religious manuscripts. For as long as there have been bad people on earth, demons have been there to try and sway others.
-
They are awfully tricky beings and have sometimes even managed to weasel their way to positions of power. A major historical event which Drothoth is particularly proud of is a massive cult called the 'Red Thorns' which spread throughout central Europe, originating in the Black Forest of Germany during the 12th century. The Red Thorns were organized by a Greater Demon by the name of Thax'ithicus. They were a legendary demon which lured countless people into the forest for conversion. People would migrate for days, weeks, and months just to listen to his lectures of wrath.
-
At the end of every lecture and ceremony, Thax'ithicus would count to 100. Everyone attending the lectures had to turn on one another and fight to the death. Whomever remained standing by the time the demon was finished counting would be granted a position of power once the end times came. Since the people Thax'ithicus lured were modern day people of their time, they weren't inclined to question too much. Seeing the power radiating from the demon, they trusted him.
-
As the Black Forest became riddled with demons and death, its Fae heart began to dwindle. The demons and the Fae are infamous enemies due to their opposite ideals. A demon cannot nurture nature, so the Fae see no reason for their existence. So, they called upon old friends to chase the demons away: the werewolves. They were successful, to say the least. The demons grew a deep distaste for wolves. They couldn't be corrupted as easily as the other races due to their roots with the Fae. So, the Red Thorns dissolved. From time to time they inspire new groups, such as the Red Dawn.

Modern Day
-
Demons are still up to their conniving ways. They are woven into modern day culture and still have a strong standing against the Divines of Azatheer.
-
The Catacombs Nightclub in Wyrdafel is a cesspool for demon activity. Both the SSC and the Hidden Vatican is well aware of this. However, knowing where they are has allowed them to make the necessary arrests whilst exposing demonic cults.

Noteworthy People
-
Thax'ithicus: A greater demon which currently resides on Drothoth. He is considered the leading figure of wrath.
-
Lucifer: The King of Drothoth. No demon has ever seen him personally. It is said that he will hide away until the final battle against Azatheer comes. His aspiration is to be the King of everything once the Divines are taken cared of. He will recreate the universe in his and his demons favours.
-
Pope Creedy: The current head of the Hidden Vatican. He is in high standing with Azatheer and has banished countless demons. He's not someone to be joked about or taken lightly.

Advanced Lore
-
Demons are able to create other demons on earth without directly taking them to Drothoth. This is done through conception of a child with other races. (See who they can mingle with).
-
Demons contributed to the original creation of vampires and zombies.
-
All demons have a 'demonic' name, which tends to be just one long and complex word. Once a human learns of the demon's name, they will be able to see through the demon's human form.
-
Any form of intentional crucifix will greatly unnerve a demon. If holy words are spoken whilst being touched by one, they will start to burn.
-
Demons can be summoned by humans and bound to them. The human might see them as a pet, but the demon sees it as an agreement. Demons that are bound to humans tend to get away with a lot more.
-
Without being summoned by a human, the demon can still bind themselves to one later on. They will place a cursed tattoo upon them in the process, which will gradually eat away at their will to do good. The agreement is that the human will be protected by the demon, which is very appeasing to some.
-
Demons that come to earth without binding themselves to a human will turn into stone gargoyles during the day.
-
Gargoyles cannot move, but Stone Angels can. Some demons can convince Drothoth that they have no use of a human host. They will be granted the form of a stone angel which can rather creepily wander around during the day.
-
-
Summoning a demon requires a human eye, human flesh, human bones, a zombie organ, and a concoction of alcohol and red arcane dust.
-
If a demon contributes to the seven holy virtues: Charity, Chastity, Temperance, Diligence, Patience, Kindness, and Humility, their connection to Drothoth will wither away and they will become a weak zombie.
-
Demons can create contracts with people which cannot be broken under any circumstances. A demon will always follow through with what a written contract says, until the day they are no more. However, if a contract was verbal, it comes with placing a corrupted mark upon the other party. The longer the contract goes unfinished, the more corrupted the other person will become. Similarly, the longer a mark has been on someone, the more energy is drained from the demon over time.
-
A demon can cause a human to become possessed. This comes from overexposure to demonic magic or planting curses on people. Curses can be undone by divine magic. The easiest way to give someone a curse is to have them ingest demon blood.
-
Whilst cursed, a human will feel more tempted into the sin of the demon involved.
-
-
Demons can consume fresh flesh of a human to quench their need to sin.
